Open Source Weaponry – Anti-ship weapon: AS-101 “Spearhead”

Why open source weaponry? Answer is simple: freedom to die, and freedom to kill! Since low-budget armies are obliged to pay too much loyalty for weapon designs, I focused on relatively simple and utterly effective piece of weaponry. I began with anti-ship weapons, because I’ve always thought previous designs lacked intelligence:)

I’m no weapons expert, neither have any experience on any flying thing, even a frisbee! Though I can easily figure out that this design sucks-a big, heavy warhead at the front, two rocket engines crying out to carry this thing as plane as possible (and could not be possible without the use of extensive engineering and control systems)

But I have a point: It has a low profile; even the warhead is not conical, so it has a bigger chance to avoid anti-missile weapons, such as Phalanx. Another advantage is, since they’re very low profile missiles, they can be stacked under pylons. (Though the bomber plane will obviously need a special release/mounting mechanism). Even better, spearheads may not have to be mounted under pylons: many fighters, take F-16, have extra fuel tank mountings under fuselage; and these missiles are no bulkier than those extra fuel tanks.

Sorry for the extremely sloppy drawing; I never used Xara Extreme before, and it took 8-10 minutes, which is a complete waste of time. Take it as a “very conceptual mockup sketched over a cigarette pack”:)

As you might already guessed, brown part is the warhead. Blue spheres are the engines, and green thingies, which looks line lines -and they’re though I completely lack drawing skills!- are the stabilizers. Since I’ve no knowledge on aerodynamics, I dont know if they’re necessary, or do any good at least. At the best, they should be misaligned, wrongly placed. Engines should have thrust vectoring nozzles for manuevring.

With “open source weaponry” idea, I’m proud to show USA government that we can enjoy the benefits of open source development without being a communist. (hear this, Bill Gates!) Also, this effort will lead proprietary weapons to be more efficient, well developed and cheap in the long run!
